Quay Lane Surgery, nestled in the charming village of St. Germans in East Cornwall, is dedicated to delivering the highest standard of patient care, placing our patients and the local community at the core of everything we do. Conveniently located approximately 20 minutes from the Tamar Bridge, we are seeking a friendly, outgoing, and enthusiastic Health Care Assistant with excellent work ethics to join our team.

Position Details:

• Hours: Approximately 15 hours per week (flexibility to consider more or less for the right candidate)
• Flexibility: Essential to cover colleague holiday/sickness from Monday to Friday, sometimes at short notice
• Location: Work at both the main and branch surgery in Downderry on a rotational basis, independently and as part of a team
• Transport: Own transport required due to rural location

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

• NVQ Level 2 (with upskilling) or NVQ Level 3
• Primary Care experience
• Basic Clinical Skills to include blood pressure, phlebotomy, wound care
• Computer literate, customer-focused, with excellent communication skills
• Understanding and adherence to strict confidentiality

• Qualified Practice Nurse with relevant nursing qualifications
• Primary Care experience
• Proficiency in clinical tasks such as wound care, immunisations, cervical screening, and health assessments
• Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with patients and the healthcare team
• Strong organisational skills to manage appointments and patient records efficiently
• Ability to provide patient-centred care with compassion and empathy
• Teamwork skills to collaborate with GPs and other healthcare professionals
• IT competence for managing patient records and communication
• Skills in health promotion and patient education
• Problem-solving abilities to assess situations and implement solutions
• Understanding and adherence to patient confidentiality and data protection
• Flexibility and adaptability in a busy practice environment
• Commitment to ongoing professional development

Desirable Skills:

• Experience in chronic disease management, including COPD, Asthma, Coronary Heart Disease (CHD), and Diabetes
• Experience of EMIS Web Clinical system

A rare opportunity to join the amazing team in Quay Lane Surgery and to live and work on the coast in beautiful South East Cornwall.

We are a friendly GMS, Dispensing Practice based in the historic village of St Germans with a branch surgery in the coastal village of Downderry. We are in a beautiful rural setting but only 20 minutes from Plymouth with excellent rail and road links.

Our clinical team is composed of 3 Partners, 2 Salaried GPs, Practice Nurse, 2 HCAs, Extended Scope First Contact Physiotherapist, Clinical Pharmacist and active Social Prescriber. 

We are part of the forward thinking and dynamic East Cornwall PCN.

We use EMIS Web Clinical System, with 15-minute appointments and offer a range of enhanced services with well-established regular MDT meetings.

We have a stable practice list size of around 4,600 patients and we dispense to 98% of these patients, this results in practice earnings being higher than average.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and friendly GP to join our team to replace one of our salaried GPs who is moving on to new pastures. We would be looking for 4 sessions a week but this can be negotiable, 2 of these sessions would ideally be on a Friday.
Partners and salaried GPs enjoy 6 weeks annual leave and 1 week study leave pro rata.

We have consistently very high achieving QOF scores, amazing satisfaction scores in the National GP Patient Survey and rated GOOD across all domains by CQC in recent inspections. 

We are brilliantly supported by a thriving and active PPG.
